#FiveonFriday: Interview with Sarah Gross and Nira Paliwoda, Co-Founders, U.S. Veg Corp & NYC Vegetarian Food Festival

The countdown is on for the 4th annual NYC Vegetarian Food Festival, (one of my favorite wellness events of the year!), NEXT month, March 1st and March 2nd! So, I thought I'd interview its co-founders, Sarah Gross and Nira Paliwoda, as my first guest wellness guru duo for my monthly Five on Friday blog series

Sarah Gross and Nira Paliwoda founded the U.S. Veg Corp and The NYC Vegetarian Food Festival. They are active members of the local vegetarian and green movement. Their involvement with the community ensures that they events they put on address the latest issues concerning the vegetarian market and the most of-the-moment technologies.

1. What is your favorite quote?

Nira: "Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it and I shall move the world."  ~ Archimedes

Sarah: "I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve (or save) the world and a desire to enjoy (or savor) the world. This makes it hard to plan the day."  ~ E.B. White

2. What are your top 5 favorite things in your life right now?

Sarah: My lovebug pitbull, Mocha, the new Wild at Heart bonbons at my other company Rescue Chocolate, cardio dance classes, meditating, and cooking for/going to dinner parties.

3. Who are your mentors?

Nira: Those individuals, (celebrity or non), that choose to use the platform they have earned to spread positivity and engage their audience in making the world a better place. Bono and Ricky Gervais are two such individuals I appreciate.

Sarah: Nathan Winograd, (visionary behind modern day No Kill movement), and the anonymous shelter workers out there in the trenches everyday.

4. What is NEW + GOOD in your life?

Nira: U.S. Veg Corp started off the new year with the launch of a new NYC Vegetarian Food Festival website (www.nycvegfoodfest.comand we are working on a few new events and partnerships for 2014. Keep a lookout for the Better Booze Festival! My other production company, Two Shes Productions, has a few exciting projects in the making but they aren't ready for the press yet. It's going to be a busy year full of exciting new adventures!

5. What advice would you give to all your fans out there?

Nira: If you have a passion, a vision, or a desire, don't get discouraged if you encounter roadblocks. Just figure out a way to work around them and gain the knowledge to avoid them in the future. Above all, don't let the nay-sayers get to you. Surround yourself with people that support your efforts and can help you achieve your goals.

Sarah: Don't get intimidated by a big idea. We enjoy going for our most out-there concepts and we wouldn't be able to do it if we thought it over too deeply. Just go for it, no matter what kind of hours it may end up requiring from you!

Friendly Reminder: Grab your tickets and veg out with top speakers including some of my fabulous friends: Victoria Moran, (Best-Selling Author, Main Street Vegan), Latham Thomas (Mama Glow, Founder), and many MORE! There's lots of yummy vegetarian food to sample, brands to discover, and activities to engage in too. Oh and parents, there's a Kumquot Kid's Area to entertain your wee ones! Maybe I'll see you there... ?!
