I don’t know about you, but I’m not much of a drinker. I barely know what to order when I’m at a bar with friends, and usually end up ordering my go-to drink: a seasonal Sam Adams or Blue Moon, which will last me a good 1-2 hours. Sometimes I wish I could just order a smoothie.
Pathetic, possibly, but what do you do in New York City when every time you want to informally catch up with someone or go on a date, it’s either coffee or drinks? I just want to quench my thirst with something delicious, and healthy.

Enter American Juice Company. Having launched only in January of this year, American Juice Company’s cocktail blends are exciting, fun, and addictive! The genius of this company is that it sells the pure fruit mixtures, allowing you to add whatever mixture you want - be it Champagne, Vodka, or just Tonic Water. The blends are made with mouth-watering ingredients such as blueberry, strawberry, or mango purée, freshly squeezed lime or lemon juice, almond extract, and spices like cardamom and cinnamon. The different flavors are so evenly balanced within the blend that they really create refreshing drinks, because there’s no sweet after taste.
Christopher Wirth is the brains behind the operation, having first thought of creating reliable recipes for cocktails when he was the Social Chair at his fraternity at George Washington University, where his “Jungle Juice” became legendary. While working at the Jefferson Hotel, he met Massimiliano Matte, the talented and renowned mixologist responsible for creating the Quill’s specialty cocktails. Together, they selected a small team of friends with expertise in various fields to launch “American Juice Company.” The names of each blend are quirky and based off the names of famous American individuals, such as “Herman Mangoville, Louis Applestrong, James Guavafield, and Chuck Blueberry.” Perfect for a company partly conceived at the Jefferson Hotel!

All the blends are made with seasonal fruit, and if you subscribe to the newsletter, you’ll get updates on new flavors and creative inspiration for what you can do with the blends - such as “pop”sicles for Father’s Day! If you want to try an American Juice Cocktail, you can order the Bilberry Bitter at Danny Meyer’s restaurant North End Grill, or you can make one yourself- just order the blend from the website. Also, the company’s Facebook page is constantly being updated with new events where the cocktails are featured.
Despite the recent, dreary weather, Summer is here and it’s time to enjoy rooftop parties and picnics in the park! Just don’t forget to hydrate with AJC ;)
