Happy National Food Day!

Happy National Food Day, everyone! After a 36 year hiatus due to a lack of money and man power, the event has resprouted. The Center for Science in the Public Interest, an advocated for nutrition and health, food safety, alcohol policy and sound science, revived this event to raise awareness to increasing food prices and world hunger.

Food Day is centered around 6 main principles:

1) Reduce diet-related disease by promoting safe, healthy foods

2) Support sustainable farms & limit subsidies to big agribusiness

3) Expand access to food and alleviate hunger

4) Protect the environment & animals by reforming factory farms

5) Promote health by curbing junk-food marketing to kids

6) Support fair conditions for food and farm workers

Led by honorary co-chairs Senator Tom Harkin, (from Iowa), and Representative Rosa DeLauro, (from CT), and represented by many renowned foodies including Michael Pollan, Maria Rodale and many others.

Over 2,000 events are scheduled around the country today! Click HERE to find something in your neck of the woods.
